In early November I spent time with the Backpackers at the volcanos. We examined rock textures and ancient rock drawings, and decided we should make our own petroglyphs. We squished the smooth "Chocolate" clay from New Mexico Clay onto small lava chunks and drew into the clay with sticks.
In December the clay was fired in a kiln with--what else?--"Lava Rock" glaze. In this mix of photos you see the rocks we discovered on that November day (also a sand castle they made) and the artists holding their final work in January.
